Ethan slightly regretted having signed up to take the mid night shuttle run that would finally deliver him to his new posting. The redeye the pilot had called it, a reference to the aeroplane flights of Earth that took place in the middle of the night. The intention was to sleep during the flight and arrive rested and ready for the day, it hadn't quite worked for Ethan who was now tired and grumpy as he clambered off the shuttle.

The remnants of an ion storm meant it had been a bumpy ride, a damaged power relay meant a fluttering light in the crew cabin of the large heavy transport craft. He was just glad to be off the craft that had the smell of stale air and body odour. His first stop was to the quartermasters officer. "I'm sorry sir, I can't find your arrival papers." The apologetic young clerk said.

"I have a copy right here." He said, waving the tablet in front of her for the third time.

"I'm sorry sir, but without them in the system I can't assign you quarters, I'm not authorized to override the system and assign you quarters otherwise. Only the Quartermaster can do that, he'll be on duty in about three hours." She said, in what he assumed was suppose to be a helpful tone.

"What would you recommend I do until then crewman." He said in a tone somewhere between rhetorical and full blown sarcasm.

"The main lounge is open 24/7." She said, again in an attempt to be helpful.

"Fine, if the quartermaster reports early I expect to be contacted." He said, turning to head for the lounge as she half shouted a 'Yes, Sir' at him. The Lieutenant made a mental note to bring the issue up with the XO when he met with them.
