The Nurse and The Corpsman

Posted on Friday October 6, 2017 @ 7:56pm by Command Master Chief Benjamin Fisher & Lieutenant Junior Grade Damian Mallaester

Mission: Hopkins the Line of Fire
Location: Sickbay

After his meeting with the Captain the Master Chief made his way to the station's quartermaster and after finding his quarters stowed his gear. He took a short break and got himself a drink and relieved himself before he made his way down to the sickbay. Aside from his office and leading his NCOs sickbay is where he felt most at home having served most of his career in Starfleet as a Corpsman. He approached the first person he saw, "Excuse me, Lieutenant," he said, a pause between the excuse me and the rank as he was trying to see it.

Now that Damian has familiarized himself with Kepler Station it was time to get down to business. His ever present coffee mug was keeping the nurse company as he went over the current assignments of his department. It was more than he was accustomed to dealing with at his last posting, but the idea was still the same. Shift a nurse here, a technician there, schedule a refresher seminar for a few staff and just like that the first few weeks of scheduling were done. There would doubtless be more changes to make, but he would take it all in stride. Just as he reached for his mug an unfamiliar gentleman entered sickbay and addressed him.

"Mallaester," the younger Lieutenant supplied, his voice lightly accented. "What can I do for you?"

"Master Chief Fisher," he said, extending his hand to the man to shake. "I am the station's Command Master Chief but I'm also a Corpsman and I'll be lending my talents to the Evacuation teams," he explained. "Are you one of the docs?"

"Pleasure to meet you, Master Chief," Damian took the man's offered hand and gave it a firm shake. "Not a doctor, but I am the Head Nurse assigned to this module," he explained.

"Pleasure to meet you too," he said. "How long have you been aboard the station?" he asked, curiously.

"Just a few days actually," Damian smiled. "I was on the Kamehameha for a couple of years before requesting to be assigned to Kepler. How about yourself if I may ask?"

"I just arrived, I was looking to meet the Chief Medical Officer. But while we're chatting what is your opinion of the station so far?"

Damian took a seat back at his station and sipped from his mug before responding, "It seems like a fine posting, definitely a lot more people than I'm used to being around. Everyone I've spoken to has been pleasant so far, no morale issues considering the circumstances," he gestured vaguely as if to indicate the border with the Cardassians.

"That is good to hear Lieutenant," he said, with a nod. "If you come up with any noticeable morale issues please don't hesitate to contact me."

"I'll keep that in mind. Was there anything else I could help you with, Physical? Inoculations?" Damian considered a joke, but wasn't sure the Master Chief would appreciate his humor just yet.

"If you could direct me toward the Chief Medical Officer's Office that'd be outstanding."

"Doctor Th'ziross is currently filling in while our Chief is on leave," the Lieutenant explained, "and I believe she's in surgery right now." He tapped away at his console for a moment before nodding, "Yep, she'll be there for the next two hours at least. Probably just best you leave her a message through the computer."

"I'll come back," he said. "Pleasure meeting you, Lieutenant."
