Kepler Station

Welcome to Kepler Station!

Kepler Station is a Presidium class space station located near the Lyshan star system within the Beloti sector of the Alpha Quadrant. Its primary mission, originally, was scientific study and to be a resupply base for ships assigned to exploring the frontier. As the conflict between the Cardassians and the Federation migrates toward the Beloti sector, the station has been repurposed as a surgical center, staffed by medical personnel stripped from other medical departments within the fleet.

Science and research still maintain a presence on the station, though in a much smaller capacity than originally planned. Kepler occasionally hosts diplomatic parties and is a temporary refuge for civilians displaced by the conflict.

The border wars began roughly five year ago in 2347. At that time, the skirmishes were concentrated at the opposite side of the Cardassian territory. Kepler station was commissioned in 2350 and fully staffed by 2351. Many of the laboratories have been refitted to concentrate on the medical needs brought forth by the influx of casualties. Many of the original staff have been reassigned off station in order to better serve the medical requirements of the station at this time.

Kepler station is officially designated as a Hospital Unit, offering it the protection against aggression as provided by Interstellar Law and as reiterated by the Seldonis IV Convention.

A warm welcome to our new counselor, Lieutenant Kestro Ral MD, PsyD Son of the Fifth House of Betazed. He will be played by Reade. Counselor visits are a great way to explore your character's psyche.

Also, remember your journaling assignment - “What is something you did when you were younger which causes you regret today?” It's a little tricky - I'm stuck with the length of only one paragraph right now. Here's an alternate journal topic if you would prefer: Is there a piece of technology you feel you could not live without? What is and why can't you live without it?

We’ve been a bit quiet lately, but let’s change that. I have three topics for this announcement.

First, a piece of news (if you didn’t already notice on the Discord server)... Kepler station has joined Task Force 39. What does this mean for the game? Nothing changes! Instead of being called an affiliate member, we’re a full member. Rules of the task force state that all members must be 18 or older; since Kepler is an 18+ game already, we’re good to go.

Secondly, your assignment for this week is to write a journal entry in the voice of your character. Please enter it as a “personal log” when posting. Your journal prompt is “What is something you did when you were younger which causes you regret today?”

When Kepler was a forums group, we had a NRPG area with “What would your character do?” questions. This journal prompt is inspired by that area. Though there were normally 5-10 questions in each exploration, I think getting our feet wet with one question first is a good step - especially since it’s a potentially big question to answer. To get us moving again, I’d like us to think of our characters as people rather than scripted peons used to move the plot forward.

And that brings me to the third topic - plot. The mission outline says we should be going into a training mission as our next step. My question is, is this where everyone wants to go? Or should we skip over that and move onto Mission Two? I should be around on Discord for the rest of today (Feb 4), and I’ll try to keep logged in this week - we can discuss in the Kepler chat room or via private chat if you don’t feel comfortable spitballing your ideas where everyone can see.

I’m looking forward to reading all the journal entries and hearing your opinions!

Welcome to Kepler Station once again! I will have the first Captain's log up shortly and we can get some posting started. Feel free to visit the Discord chat channel for out of character discussions and getting to know your fellow players. The link to Discord is on the main page of the site.

I have drafted a rough outline of the mission in Google Drive. Follow this link to get there. I did not enable editing on the document but feel free to shoot me ideas or suggestions and I'll update it as necessary.

Finally, major kudos to Ty for getting the ball rolling with his personal log on Friday. Excellent job!
